File Formats

Case Bundle

FormatWhat it is
.ferro/A directory bundle: the Case document, mesh, and a results/ directory. This is what Prism opens and saves as a single unit.
case.toml / case.jsonThe FerroCase document itself — mesh reference, materials catalog, named selections, and Environments. TOML or JSON, chosen by file extension.

Results

FormatWhat it is
.fresThe canonical, persisted results-of-record format — CBOR-encoded, FRES\0 magic bytes. Owned by the ferro-results crate.

.fres replaced two earlier, more limited formats: a plain output/result.json written by ferro-runner, and an older Prism-internal binary format (FERRO_RES\0 v1) that was lossy and only carried a single result field. If you're working with older result files, expect one of those two instead.

Mesh Input

Handled by ferro-io:

FormatNotes
.mshGmsh format, version 4.x
.bdf, .nas, .datNastran bulk data format
.vtuVTK unstructured grid — both read and write
.csvPlain tabular mesh data

Materials

FormatWhat it is
.nmatA material library file — referenced via ferro-cli's --materials flag, and opens as its own view type in Prism.
